189 BREAST CARCINOMA ASPIRATES: A STUDY ON CYTOLOGICAL GRADING *Subhashish Das, Kalyani and Harendra Kumar Department of Pathology; Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka, Kolar *Author for Correspondence ABSTRACT Cytological nuclear grading is one of the most important prognostic factors that should be considered in the study of breast cancer. The aim was to study the importance of the nuclear grading in breast carcinoma in imprint smears along with its histological correlation. The fine needle aspiration smears were stained with Papanicolaou stain and graded using the Robinson’s cytological grading system. Subsequently histological grading was performed on their Hematoxylin &Eosin stained tissue sections by Nottingham modification of Scarff-Bloom-Richardson method. The study shows nuclear features of breast carcinoma can play important prognostic factor with significant diagnostic and therapeutic value.

Comparative evaluation of grading of breast carcinomas in fine needle aspirates by two methods.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Fine needle aspiration (FNA) material is increasingly being used to determine various prognostic parameters in patients with carcinoma breast. It was recommended that cytological grading should be part of all FNA reports of breast carcinoma so that preoperative prognostication could be done on it. However, the most reliable method for cytological grading that closely ref...

Characteristic cytological features of histological grade one (G1) breast carcinomas in fine needle aspirates.

OBJECTIVE To analyse the spectrum of nuclear features as well as dissociation pattern found in fine needle aspirates (FNAC) from histological grade 1 breast carcinomas and evaluate the critical cytological features of these lesions. MATERIAL AND METHODS The material consisted of FNAC smears from 494 histologically confirmed grade 1 breast carcinomas. All smears were revaluated for cell dissoc...

Comparative evaluation of six parametric Robinson and three parametric Howell's modification of Scarf-BloomRichardson grading method on breast aspirates with histopathology: A prospective study

Background Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a quick method to assess the tumor grade before its removal which will help clinicians to decide on the appropriate neo adjuvant therapy. This is essentially true in developing countries where core needle biopsy still is not used as a standard practice to sample breast carcinoma. Assessment of biological aggressiveness by cytological grading ...

Comparative Evaluation of Three Cytological Grading Systems for Carcinoma Breast

Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology is an important tool in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of breast carcinoma. It has been recommended that cytological grading should be included in the FNA reports to know the tumor aggressiveness and prognostication. Among the many cytological grading systems existing, there is still no agreement on the most reliable system. Aim: The study wa...

Comparison of 3-Tier Cytological Grading Systems for Breast Carcinoma

Background. Fine-needle aspiration cytology plays a major role in the primary diagnosis of breast carcinoma. Cytological grading of the smears can provide valuable prognostic information and aid in planning the management options. Aim. To evaluate various 3-tier cytological grading systems and to determine the best possible system which is reliable and objective for use in routine practice. Mat...
